The shocking video of a woman attacking a Chinese restaurant has sparked a debate about violence against Chinese women.

After one resisted sexual harassment, nine men brutally beat up a group of four women at a restaurant.

CCTV footage shot in northeastern Tangshan shows a man walking with a seated woman pushing her back.

When he greeted, he stood on her head and slapped her face when she asked him to leave.

Some other men join in the violence and attack them. One was beaten in a chair and the other had his hair pulled from the restaurant.

The incident reportedly occurred at 2:40 p.m. on June 10.

Authorities said the two women had sustained life-threatening injuries and were being treated at a hospital.

Nine suspects involved in the case were arrested and under investigation on Saturday afternoon, according to police updates.

The attack began when one of the women approached a stranger and touched him without consent.

A widely distributed WeChat post on Saturday criticized the main official framework of the attack as a simple act of violence.

“It happened in a society where violence against women is pervasive. Ignoring and repressing gender perspectives means denying the violence that women experience as women,” the anonymous post said.

A photo posted on Chinese social media is said to show one of the women injured while in hospital.

“Tolerance for such vicious cases of gross violations of women’s rights and interests should be zero,” the Chinese Women’s News, published in full by the China Women’s Federation, said in a comment on Saturday.

In February, the condition of a woman in Feng County, eastern Jiangsu province, triggered public protests after it appeared on her neck in a video posted on social media.
