The mother and her 7-year-old daughter were brought to the hospital by a German Shepherd dog while shopping.
Vicky Rafferty, 35, explained how she and her daughter Evi-Louise Mennon were attacked in Coventry at the Gallagher Retail Park on June 6.
He states, “On the way, we literally attacked our daughter Evi Louise. He knocked her to the ground. Luckily, she put her hand to her face but bit her arm in confusion. She did it.”
He grabbed her leg, threw her to the ground and bit her from the side to the elbow. The dog just didn’t let go. No matter how far my daughter was from the dog, he held her on my feet.
Vicky remembered the time she had to punch the dog in the face to get rid of her daughter.
He states: “I managed to get rid of him by kicking my daughter in the face. I yelled: ‘get my daughter out and get rid of her’”.
“He hit his face four times and then he missed. Then he caught me. I was standing on the ground and biting.”
He was a 6 year old German Shepherd. The owner tried to pull her back with a harness, but he didn’t have a chance.
Vicky was bitten five times, including a nasty puncture wound to her upper thigh and leg.
“I was wrestling him on the ground,” he said. “He had a big jacket packed, and it tore.”
After some control by the owner, the dog was trapped in the car again.
Vicky said she was also worried about losing the puck twice during the attack and dropping it.
He and Evi-Louise received on-the-spot treatment for injuries and were later transferred to a university hospital for further treatment of Coventry and Warwickshire wounds and tetanus.
As a result of the attack, Evi-Lewis inflated his arm like a “balloon” and was bitten seven times, resulting in a puncture wound with exposed fatty tissue.
Evie-Louise was deeply traumatized by the incident and threatened to return to A&E for a UHC WX-ray due to severe back pain.
Vicky said: “He can’t sleep well and he falls asleep at night and cries. ‘Mummy, Mummy, please.'”
“He left school a week ago on antibiotics, but he still has an open wound.”
The dog was taken in by the West Midlands Police Department.
But Vicky is afraid of continuing to attack other people in the future.
He added: “This dog may come back soon. I am worried it will hit the baby again, but next time it may be fatal.”
A West Midland Police spokesperson said:
“A 7-year-old boy with bruises and his mother were treated at the scene.
German shepherd dogs were arrested under section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act. “This time a survey will be conducted to assess the behavior of the dog.”
