Actor Philip Baker Hall, one of Hollywood’s most recognizable karatekas, has died at the age of 90.

“Neighbor, friend and one of the most experienced, talented and kind people I have ever met, Philip Baker Hall, died peacefully last night. He had his loved ones around him. “People have an empty seat.” wrote sports writer Sam Farmer, who was a neighbor and friend of the actor.

Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1931, Philip Baker Hall began his acting career in New York small theatrical stages – before that he was a translator for the US Army in Germany.

His long career, however, in cinema, but also in television, began in the 70’s. It was then that Hall took on his first film role in Simon Nacktern’s “Cowards.” In the same decade he made small appearances on television, in series such as “M * A * S * H” and “Good Times”.

Somehow, Hall began to build a reputation as a karateka and a rich career of 5 decades with more than 180 roles in cinema and television to his credit.

His resume includes collaborations with directors such as Robert Altman (played by Richard Nixon in “Secret Honor”), as well as appearances in films such as “Ghostbusters II”, “Midnight Run”, “Say Anything” and ” The Truman Show “, in which he took on the role of a television producer.

The meeting of Philip Baker Hall in the early 90’s with a young then acting director in PBS named Paul Thomas Anderson was the one who gave a second breath to the actor’s career.
