A seven-year-old boy died after a bullet tore through the wall of a mobile home and struck him in the chest.
Paul Basquez was able to tell his mother what had happened in Corif, Texas, but then lost consciousness.
He was taken to Ventaub Hospital, where he died from an injury.
Sergeant Jason Brown said he was sleeping in front of his house when he was hit in the chest.
He told KHOU1, “He was sitting on the bed in his bedroom. His bedroom was across from the mobile home, where gunshots hit the mobile home.
“She was shot first, and she was able to tell her mother that she was shot before she could respond.”
It is suggested that he fired from a silver sedan that drove up to the house and began shooting.
At the time, Paul’s mother and two brothers were at home, but no one was injured.
The motive is currently under investigation, and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is asking people for information.
He said: “A child was killed in a shooting this morning.
“This is a daily indicator of gun violence. Gun violence in the United States is not seen as a solitary problem.
“Don’t accept daily gun violence as our norm. Our hearts go out to all those crying after these shootings. We have more to stop gun violence. You can and should do that.”
