An American author, who had written an essay entitled “How to kill your husband”was sentenced yesterday to life sentencefor the murder of her husband.
THE Nancy Crampton Brophy had been found guilty by a jury in Oregon, in the northwestern United States, for the murder of Daniel Brophy’s husband in 2018.
The 71-year-old Brophy will be entitled to parole for 25 yearsas announced by an Oregon judge.
At her trial, which lasted a month, it was said that the defendant bought a gun from eBay to kill her husband in the hope of earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from his life insurance, which she denied.
This pistol was never found and she claimed that she had bought it as part of the research for a new book of hers.
THE Daniel Brophy, chef by profession, was found dead lying on the floor of a classroom of a cooking school, where he taught and which does not work today, in June 2018. He had received two shots.
Shots from security cameras showed his wife driving in the area at the time of the crime.
The author, specializing in romance novels with titles such as “The wrong husband”claimed that she does not remember being there, but regarding the shots she assumed that she was simply shown looking for inspiration for her books.
Brophy, whose defense attorneys have said they will appeal the decisiondenied that she had killed her husband and insisted that the years had passed since the couple was facing financial difficulties and that she had no reason to kill him.

The essay “How to kill your spouse”, which is still available on the Internet, refers to methods and incentives to get rid of an unwanted spouse.
