Former President Donald Trump spent millions of dollars “out of touch” using his “big lie” after the 2020 election, according to a committee investigating the Jan. 6 congressional turmoil.

At Monday’s second hearing, the House Election Commission used video testimony to reiterate that Trump was repeatedly told the fraud allegations were baseless. But Trump continued to spread the idea.

Former Attorney General William Barr told Trump that his fraud allegations were unfounded, but that he “wasn’t really interested in what the real facts were,” he told committee members. … Barr raised the possibility that Trump actually started to believe his own lies.

“Wow, if he really believes in this stuff, he’s out of touch with it, if he really believes in that, he’s out of touch,” Barry said on air Monday in a clip of a letter of recommendation.

Zoe Lofgren, a member of the committee, said the panel “supporters said the Trump campaign was a donation to a court battle using false accusations of this fraudulent election. It raised hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Amanda Vic, a senior investigator for the commission, said Trump supporters were receiving 25 emails a day requesting donations to the nonexistent Election Defense Fund.

“The Trump campaign knew these accusations of fraudulent voting were false, but they continued to embezzle a small number of donations that encouraged donations to the official election fund,” Vic said at the hearing. “The elected committee has discovered that there is no such fund.

“I don’t think there is a fund called the Election Defense Fund,” said Hannah Alled, a former Trump campaign staffer.

The Trump campaign’s digital director called the fund a “marketing ploy.”

According to the wiki, a significant amount of the donations to the Foundation went to the Save America PAC, which was established two days after Joe Biden announced the presidential election. The Political Action Committee then sent $5 million to the company that organized the rally on January 6 before the riots, $1 million to two separate organizations affiliated with Trump staff, and $204,857 to the Trump Hotel Collection.

“During the Commission’s investigation, we found evidence that the Trump campaign and its agents misrepresented to donors where their money was going and what it was used for,” Lofgren said.

So it wasn’t just a big lie, it was a big mess. Donors deserve to know where their money is going. They are worth more than what President Trump and his team have done.
