by

The Democratic’s popularity has been below 50% since August 2021, which suggests that his party is likely to lose control of at least one of the two houses of Congress in the November 8 by-elections.

US President Joe Biden’s popularity fell to 39%, shrinking for the third week in a row, approaching the lowest level of his term, according to a poll conducted by the Ipsos Institute on behalf of the Reuters news agency and broadcast yesterday by the latter.

The main finding of the two-day poll is that 56% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s performance in office.

The Democratic’s popularity has been below 50% since August 2021, which suggests that his party is likely to lose control of at least one of the two houses of Congress in the November 8 by-elections.

Mr Biden is facing a spike in inflation this year as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed up fuel prices and caused new disruptions to global supply chains that have not yet recovered from the new coronavirus pandemic.

The decline of Joe Biden’s popularity is mainly attributed to the dissatisfaction in the ranks of the voters of his own faction. 74% of Democrat supporters said they approved of the president’s work this week, a figure dramatically down from 85% last August. Only 11% of those who support Republicans say they applaud the performance of the veteran of American politics.

However, Mr. Biden’s popularity has not yet reached the level of that of his predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, which fell to 33% in December 2017. The lowest percentage recorded by the popularity of his current leader state was 36% at the end of May.

The national poll was conducted online, in English, on a representative sample of 1,005 adults, of whom 443 said they were Democrats and 364 Republicans. The statistical error margin is ± 4%.
