A Russian spy was reportedly arrested at Gatwick airport while trying to leave Britain.
A 40-year-old man was arrested under the official secret law under articles related to espionage and sabotage “beneficial to the enemy.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said:
“He was taken to a police station in London and is currently in police custody. An investigation is ongoing.”
A source told The Sun: “The suspect was allegedly spying on Britain on behalf of the Putin administration.
“He was under surveillance and was arrested when he arrived at Gatwick trying to fly out of the country.”
Police did not name where the man tried to fly.
His arrest followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s SO15 Counter-Terrorism Group, in collaboration with the British intelligence agency MI5.
