Putin’s first critic sent to “a torture prison where guards rape prisoners”

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was reportedly sent to a “torture” prison known for systematic sexual abuse of prisoners.

Oleg Yazan, chairman of the Public Oversight Commission, told state media that critics of the Kremlin reached “IK-6,” which stands for the Melehovo fortress, some 150 miles east of Moscow.

The largest and strictest security prison colony is notorious for brutal beatings and rapes of male prisoners.

Navalny’s aides said they could not confirm that he had been taken to the facility and were unable to locate him after he disappeared yesterday from a standard security prison.

The motion to imprison the hard-line government is linked to the start of a new nine-year prison sentence that the Russian opposition and the West consider to be politically motivated.

He said he witnessed another prisoner being hit in the abdomen and the base of the heel before raping him with the pipe.

Navalny also addressed rumors of atrocities when he was first told of the possibility of a transfer.

He drew praise when he voluntarily returned from Germany to Russia last year. There he recovered from severe nerve agent poisoning that he blamed on Putin.

Navalny was charged with violating probation after being sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for failing to appear before a Russian municipality.

The opposition leader later ridiculed the accusations, saying he could not continue his visit due to a coma.

Then, in March, Navalny was sentenced to a heavy prison term for “fraud and insult to court.”

Judge Vladimir Putin was promoted before the verdict was delivered.

Navalny says the proceedings against him were falsified.

Last month he called Putin “crazy” and criticized the “stupid war” in Ukraine.

Many of Navalny’s allies and activists have been arrested or deported by the police, which the state calls “radicals.”

Prosecutors allege that he created an extremist organization and accuse him of inciting hatred of the authorities and crimes of up to 15 years in prison.
