A senior Islamic State leader has been captured in Syria

THE international anti-jihadist coalition under US administration announced that his forces arrested him during business in Syria in the early morning hours today leader of the Islamic State organization (ΙΚ).

The statement did not specify exactly where the operation took place in Syria.

A Turkish-backed Syrian rebel leader told Reuters earlier today that coalition forces, transported by helicopter, had raid on the village of Al Humairanear the Turkish-Syrian border, stressing that this was the first operation of its kind in the region.

THE Major Youssef Hamoud, Representative of the Syrian National Army (SNS), reported that the operation was carried out by men of special forces moving by Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters, without going into further details.

“This is the first time (US) helicopters have landed” in an area controlled by the ESS, however, he insisted.

According to another source in the area, exchanges of fire broke out during the operation.

In February, US Special Forces helicopter gunships raided Idlib province, which is controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sam (HTS, the former al Qaeda affiliate in Syria) and killed him Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, the leader of the Islamic State.
