USA: One dead, two injured in a fire in front of a church in Alabama

Local police said they had arrested a suspect, and assured that there was “no further threat” to the city.

One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting in front of a church in Westville Hills, Alabama. The relevant announcement was made by the local police, noting that its members arrested a suspect.

“Three people in the episcopal church of Agios Stefanos were hit by bullets. Two victims were taken to a local hospital and are receiving medical treatment. “Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries,” police said via Facebook.

He added that he had arrested and detained a suspect, assuring that there was “no further threat” to the city.

The episode took place in front of the church shortly after 18:00 yesterday Thursday (local time; shortly after 02:00 today Friday Greek time), while “Boomers Potluck” was in progress, a community meal where everyone brings a plate, according to with the church website.

The United States has been experiencing a recent spate of gun attacks, the worst of which was a recent high school student in Uwalde, Texas, on May 24, when 21 people were killed – 2 teachers and 19 children.

More than 20,000 people have been killed by gunfire in the United States since the beginning of the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, including suicide bombings.
