Britain is expected to be near the record temperature for the month of June today, with the mercury reaching and possibly exceeding 34 degrees Celsius in London and possibly in the east of England.

It is believed that such a temperature will be higher than that recorded yesterday in western Sahara.

The highest temperature of the year was recorded for the second consecutive day on Thursday, with 29.5 degrees Celsius in west London.

The heatwave is due to the northward movement of the hot air mass that had covered Iberia and France since the beginning of the week.

The UK Public Health Service has issued a Level 3 warning, from the four-tier warning scale, so that health authorities are prepared for heatstroke and other heat-related problems.

The heat is so great that for the first time the organizers of the historic Royal Ascot Horse Racing, in their formal attire for spectators, will allow the men to remove their tie.

The fire service is also on alert for fires.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Britain in June was 35.6 degrees Celsius in 1976 in Southampton.

Everyone is trying to cool off.
