Another 610 people were injured, according to a disaster management official
The death toll from a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck Afghanistan early this morning has risen to 950, according to an official from the country’s disaster management service.
He added that another 610 people had been injured.

Footage from Paktika province near the border with Pakistan showed victims being transported by helicopter to move away from the area.

According to Al Arabiya, the state news agency Bakhtar he mentioned that rescuers arrived by helicopter. News Agency CEO Abdul Wahid Rayan wrote on Twitter that 90 houses have been destroyed in Paktika and dozens of people have been trapped under the rubble.
Widespread images from the province of the province show damaged stone houses, with residents collecting clay bricks and other rubble.

The earthquake was felt in the capital tPakistan, Islamabad, and elsewhere in the eastern province of Punjab.
The European Seismological Service, EMSC, reported the quake more than 500 kilometers were felt (310 miles) from 119 million people worldwide Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
It is noted that mountainous Afghanistan and the wider region of South Asia, where the Indian tectonic plate collides with the Eurasian plate in the north, it has long been vulnerable to catastrophic earthquakes.
The 2015a major earthquake that struck the northeast of the country killed more than 200 people in Afghanistan and neighboring northern Pakistan.
A similar earthquake of 6.1 degrees in 2002 killed about 1,000 people in northern Afghanistan. And in 1998, an earthquake also 6.1 Richter and subsequent earthquakes in remote northeastern Afghanistan killed at least 4,500 people.
