Nightmare … hangover: Employee in Japan got drunk and lost USB with personal data of 460,000 people

“Sea” was made by an employee in Japan, after a spree in a restaurant and excessive alcohol consumption lost a usb stick which contained the data of the inhabitants of an entire city!

It all started on Tuesday afternoon when the man after work went out for a drink in the city of Amagasaki, while he had with him his bag where he had placed the famous stick.

He spent several hours drinking at a local restaurant and then fainted in the middle of the street, local media reported.

When he finally met, he realized that both his bag and the infamous stick were missing.

The Japanese television network NHK reports that the man, who is said to be about 40 years oldworks for a company that provides benefits to tax-exempt households.

City officials said USB included the names, dates of birth and addresses of all the inhabitants of the city but also more sensitive information, such as tax data, bank account numbers and information on families receiving social security.

Fortunately for the man, city officials said the data contained in the drive are encrypted and locked with a password. They added that there has been no indication that anyone has tried to access the information so far.

However, the embarrassing incident forced the mayor of the city and other officials to apologize to the residents.

“We are deeply saddened that we have deeply damaged the public’s trust in the city administration,” an Amagasaki city official told a news conference.
