Prince Charles: Investigation begins on 3 million received from Qatari sheikhs

Research on donations made by him former Prime Minister of Qatar Hamad bin Yasim bin Jaber al-Thani in his charity Prince Charles of Wales will conduct the relevant supervisory body in Britain, according to the Sun.

According to the Sunday Times, the controversial former leader of Qatar had personally given the heir to the British throne total amounts 3 million euros in the period 2011-2015.

On one occasion in 2015, at Charles’s headquarters in Clarence House, Sheikh Al Thani had personally given to his host 1 million euros in cash in a travel sack. Another time the same amount was delivered in bags from the luxury department store London Fortnum & Mason.

The money measured by hand by two advisers to Prince Charles and given to one of his charities, the leaders of which, according to Clarence House, assured that everything had been done in the proper manner.

The Sunday Times stressed that there is no suspicion of illegalitybut noted that new questions arise about the discretion of the next king when he receives donations in this way from controversial sources.

It is noted that Al Thani has, among other things, admitted that during his leadership it is possible that he was inadvertently funded by Qatar. the al Qaeda affiliate in Syria.

Last year, Charles’s closest adviser, Michael Fawcett, had resigned following revelations that he had received a donation from a Saudi businessman to a charity of the British prince, hinting that in return there would be mediation for an honorary title from the Palace. However, there is no evidence that Charles himself was aware of this agreement.

The Sun notes that as part of the investigation by the supervisory body of charitable organizations in Britain, Charles himself may be summoned to testify.

The supervisory authority has the right to freeze accounts of a charitable organization if it finds serious irregularities, as well as to make available or order the removal of members of the board of directors of an organization or even to refer the case to the police.
