The basic search for the lost dog “looked like a rock” and almost stopped.
The savior stumbled as he emerged from the Dorset waters near Durdry’s Gate.
They were looking for Rocks, the blue China Shar Pei, who fell off the edge of a steep cliff and landed in a beautiful spot.
The dog’s gray fur melted into a layer of rock, making it nearly impossible to see.
He joined the savior and his downtrodden owner and sounded the alarm.
The rescue team split into two teams. One is on the rock and the other is on the sand.
After a 45-minute search of 20 people, the dog was finally found behind a large rock.
Miraculously, Rocks survived his tests without injury.
He was safely reunited with his delighted owner, an English family resting in Dorset, and their other dogs.
The incident involving the Wyke Coast Guard and the Lalworth Coast Guard occurred last night at 2:35pm at Dungee Head near Durdle Door.
Wyke Coast Guard officer Tony Goss said Rocks was “very lucky” to be safe and urged pedestrians to keep their dogs near the top of the cliff.
He states: “The rocks fell to a height of about 50 feet and landed on a very steep bank.
“The owner has two dogs that were not shot.
They were by the rock and they turned around for a moment, and when they looked back, the Rocks were gone.
“They excitedly called 999 and they called us and sent two teams to look for Rox.
“We have been looking for it for a long time because its color made it very difficult to see.
We had one team on a cliff with a view and the other was walking on the beach.
“In the end, I found it among the rocks, and it took as long as it looked like a rock.
“Rocks was not injured and we reunited him with a reassuring owner.”
Dog owners are urged to keep their pets near the beach.
Tony added: “He was a lucky dog. No matter how well behaved he is, he’s chasing something, so it’s a good idea to let him rest on the edge of a cliff…”
A Lalworth Coast Guard spokesman said:
Rocks, a blue Shar Pei from China, was found at the foot of the cliff where he fell.
“The team members went through The Rocks, greeted The Rocks against the tides and rough terrain, headed to St. Oswald Bay and connected to the shoreline at Larworth, where I was very relaxed and appreciative. I met with the owner who expresses his feelings.
