“Turkey has secured the ‘full co-operation’ of Finland and Sweden against the PKK and its allies”
Very pleased with the agreement with Sweden and Finland, which effectively secures the Nordic countries’ accession to NATO, Ankara has emerged. “Turkey got what it wanted,” say sources in the Turkish presidency.
“Turkey has secured the ‘full co-operation’ of Finland and Sweden against the PKK and its allies, as well as the commitment to take concrete steps to extradite those accused of terrorist acts.” The three countries have reportedly agreed to step up co-operation in the defense industry and lift any restrictions (embargoes). They will also set up a structured intelligence-sharing mechanism to fight terrorism.
It was also agreed that “the demonstration of solidarity with Turkey in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations” is emphasized, as stated by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul Manolis Kostidis.
Also, according to Turkey, the following were agreed:
• Commitment to amending the national legislation and practices of Sweden and Finland in the fight against terrorism and the defense industry.
• Take concrete steps to extradite terrorist criminals and conclude bilateral contractual arrangements.
• Prohibition of money laundering and recruitment activities of the PKK and
of its branches and front organizations and their research.
• Prevent terrorist propaganda against Turkey.
• Turkey’s support for the wider involvement of Finland and Sweden in EU security mechanisms, including PESKO (EU Permanent Structured Cooperation Process).
• Establishment of a permanent joint mechanism with the participation of justice, intelligence and security agencies to oversee the implementation of these steps.
“Thanks to his perspective and decisive attitude President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey has made significant gains in the fight against terrorist organizations.
“The fact that ‘FETO is a terrorist organization’ together with the PKK / YPG / PYD has been so clearly stated in an international agreement, was a very important step in the international dimension in the struggle of Turkey under the leadership of President Erdogan,” Ankara said. .
