Yemen: 7 killed in attack on security official in Aden

At least seven people, including four soldiers, were killed Wednesday in a car bomb blast targeting a security official in the northern Yemeni city of Aden.

A government security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the car, which was trapped with a large amount of explosives, had “targeted the motorcade of Saleh al-Sajed, the head of security in Lahz province,” and that the attack had taken place. in Hor Maxar, district of Aden.

“Security forces neutralized another car trapped near the site of the attack,” the official added.

According to the same source, Saleh al-Sajed escaped the attack “orchestrated by terrorists who target security officials, soldiers and journalists in Aden”.

A Yemeni journalist was killed when a car bomb exploded on June 16 in Aden.

The Yemeni government formally settled in this city after it was expelled in 2015 from the capital Sanaa, which was occupied by the Shiite Houthi rebels.

The war in Yemen, which intensified in 2014 when rebels launched a general offensive from their strongholds in the north, has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and uprooted millions more, according to the UN. It causes one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
