Says it doesn’t remove the “tension”

Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would respond “also” if NATO built infrastructure in Sweden and Finland.

The Russian Despot posed a terrifying threat after the Scandinavian countries signed an agreement paving the way for Western Union membership.

Putin said Russian news agencies did not deny that Moscow’s relations with Helsinki and Stockholm would create “tension”.

He says that there is no such problem in Sweden and Finland as in Ukraine.

But he said NATO’s military infrastructure would have to be mirrored if it were deployed to these countries.

NATO officially invited Finland and Sweden today, six weeks after the Finnish and Swedish requests offended the Kremlin.

Strengthening of NATO

NATO agreed to a “fundamental change” in Cold War-like preparations to respond to Russia.

This followed yesterday’s breakthrough when Turkey lifted its veto to join the alliance after the three countries agreed to protect each other’s security.

This shows an embarrassing change in the history of the Russian president, who has repeatedly claimed that his “special military operations” have pushed NATO into the threat of expansion in Ukraine.

He had previously warned that Finland and Sweden would face “serious military and political consequences” if they ended decades of neutrality by joining the bloc.

Finland shares a long border with Russia, so Finland is particularly desperate to avoid hostilities from Moscow and also serves as a valuable diplomatic mediator when negotiations with Western nations deteriorate significantly.

However, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has changed the minds of both countries. Troops from both countries are already working closely with the NATO military.

To make matters worse for the Russian dictator, NATO today agreed to a “fundamental change” in preparation for a Cold War-style response to the growing threat from Moscow.

At today’s summit in Madrid, the leaders of 30 countries agreed to keep an eye on the current 40,000 to 300,000 soldiers next year.

For the UK, this means that the “majority” of the Navy (including an aircraft carrier and its auxiliary ships) will be available to NATO, along with additional units the size of air squadrons and ground brigades.

In addition, an additional 1,000 British soldiers were sent to Estonia to strengthen NATO’s presence on the Russian border.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson called Putin “evil” because he asked the alliance’s leaders to increase their defense budget.

He later announced an additional $1 billion in military aid from Britain to Ukraine after his own lawmakers pressured him to increase defense spending.

The prime minister said the new funding would correspond to a 77% increase from the 1.3 billion pounds already planned, adding that Britain’s support would “change Ukraine’s defenses” against Russian attacks.

Johnson said: “Putin’s atrocities continue to threaten the lives of Ukrainians, threatening the peace and security of Europe as a whole.

“Putin has not achieved what he hoped and hoped for, and his attacks on the Ukrainian people are becoming more and more barbaric, as the futility of this war is becoming apparent to all.

“British weapons, equipment and training are changing Ukraine’s defenses against this attack.

“And just as Putin fails in Ukraine, we continue to support the Ukrainian people.”
