Gay couples were “overwhelmed” with support from their community after they sent a letter of homosexual aversion called “fools”.

Daniel Cooper and Nathan Jones, both 29, took over the post office in a town of Newlonggton, near Preston, Lancashire, last February.

Since then, they have received four anonymous hate mail messages. One of them complains that the couple raised a rainbow flag in pride month.

Last week someone wrote: It is a Christian town (three churches) where the children pass. What kind of idiot are you?

Daniel said in a letter that he was “shocked and saddened” because he did not expect “something like this” to walk through the door.

“I’m not 100% sure the message is from the same person, but the letter made us feel like we were sinners when we weren’t,” Daniel added. ..

However, the local community was not ready to make Daniel and Nathan feel anything but acceptance and support.

As a result, nearly 200 villagers gathered in the rain on Tuesday show up outside the post office, raising a rainbow flag and “sending a very clear message that outdated views and hate are unacceptable.”

At one point, when a 96-year-old man was crying in front of Daniel, he was emotionally upset by his support.

Daniel said: I was surprised that many people came.

“It just shows that love beats hate and that there are better people than little ones.

“I am thick and the letter did not prevent us from working here. In fact, it forced us to continue and we received many messages of support this morning.

“He didn’t do anything to us anymore. It’s about standing up to oppression. No one should lead you into your life.

“You can fly the pride flag if you want. Just because they don’t agree doesn’t mean you can’t fly it.”
