The poll also found that the majority of Americans, both liberals and conservatives, feel that their government is corrupt.
Nearly a quarter of Americans – 28% – said they “may soon need to take up arms” against the US government, according to a new poll released on Thursday, June 30, according to the Daily Mail. Of those who feel this way, 37% now own guns, according to the poll.
The poll also found that the majority of Americans – liberals and conservatives – feel that their government is corrupt.
The poll, which involved 1,000 American voters, was conducted by the University of Chicago Institute for Policy in May.
One-third of Republicans polled believe armed resistance to the government may soon be necessary, while 35 percent of independent voters believe the same as 20 percent of Democrats.
Nearly half of those surveyed said they avoid talking about politics, and a quarter said they have lost friends or avoided friends and relatives because of political beliefs.
«While we have documented party polarization in the country for years, these poll results are perhaps the strongest evidence of the deep divisions in party attitudes that run through the country.“, Said the pollster Neil Newhouse.
