Japan is working on the heat on an unprecedented scale.

Residents were also told to reduce electricity if possible, and manufacturers reduced working hours.

To save energy, some commuter train stations have been closed and amusement parks near Yokohama have also been closed.

On Thursday, the power grid for Tokyo’s 37 million people reached usage levels that threatened a power outage, but the situation calmed down.
