by

On Friday, 3,060 flights were canceled and 8,000 delays were recorded.

The Americans which are headed today to airports to travel for the 4th of July national holiday risk being in for a surprise as airlines have already canceled hundreds of flights today, due to lack of staff.

By noon local time, nearly 600 flights had already been canceled, while more than 2,100 others were experiencing delays, according to specialist website flightaware.com.

The situation was even worse the day before: on Friday, 3,060 flights were cancelled and recorded 8,000 arrears.

Airlines in the US are currently employing 15% less staff compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic and are struggling to manage the mass return of passengers to their planes.

Industry companies say they are working to solve the problem by stepping up recruitment drives for pilots and other staff and reducing the number of seats available for passengers.

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg reminded passengers via Twitter on Saturday that they are entitled to a refund if their flight is canceled.
