Some analysts say the withdrawal of Russian forces from Fidonisi off Ukraine’s southwestern coast could ease the blockade on Ukrainian ports.
The Ukrainian flag has been raised again at Fidonisi on the Black Sea, the Ukrainian military said today, after Russian forces withdrew from the strategic outpost last week.

“The military operation has been completed and … the territory (of Fidonisi) has been returned to the jurisdiction of Ukraine,” Natalya Khomeniuk, spokeswoman for Ukraine’s southern military command, told a news conference.
Some analysts say the withdrawal of Russian forces from Fidonisi off Ukraine’s southwestern coast could ease the blockade on Ukrainian ports.
However, a Kyiv-based foreign diplomat told Reuters that this was still not enough to allow safe transit of Ukrainian grain.
Russia said it pulled out of Fidonisi on Thursday in a “gesture of goodwill” to show it was not standing in the way of United Nations efforts to open a humanitarian corridor that would return grain shipments from Ukraine.
Ukraine claimed it had driven out Russian forces after an artillery and missile attack.
