Zahawi, who was appointed minister on Tuesday as the Johnson administration was collapsing, later deleted his message from Twitter.

Britain’s new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nadeem Zahawiearlier today expressed his condolences to Japan considering that the former prime minister Shinzo Abe died after a gunman attacked him at a campaign rally, although Abe remains in critical condition.

Zahawi, who was appointed to the post on Tuesday as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government was collapsing, later deleted his message from Twitter.

Britain’s Treasury announced that Zahawi was wrong to express his reaction to a horrific event.

67-year-old Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was attacked by a gunman today as he delivered a speech in Nara (west) ahead of elections to renew the composition of the Japanese Senate, held the day after tomorrow Sunday.

Current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Abe was hospitalized in critical condition.

“We are heartbroken by the news from Japan. Prime Minister Abe died after being shot by a gunman. We enter politics to serve and try to make the world a better place. A good man lost his life in pursuit of this higher purpose. May he rest in peace,” Zahawi tweeted at 06:07 local time.
