He spoke to ThessToday.gr about the difficulties he faced, how his people stood up to him and gave a message of perseverance and effort.

“It was a wish of mine and I wanted to make it happen, to give panhellenics. I had tried in the past as well just to see the experience, without serious preparation. But now I took it seriously. The professors I had in the evening EPAL helped me a lot and I succeeded”.

Describing his daily life in the midst of feverish preparations for the Panhellenic Games, he noted that there was no time for personal life. However, he is happy with the result and optimistic about the future and how he will combine the service with his studies, as “the best is yet to come”. As he said: “It was difficult because in the mornings until 3:00 PM I was on duty and from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM I was in the evening EPAL. My day was full. There was no time for personal life. We read mainly on weekends and holidays.”

“My daughter was holding the book and I was telling her the lesson”

Mr. Mademtsoglou, a father of two children, notes that his family was positive when he announced to them that he would participate in the Panhellenic Games, while his daughter, who is studying in the Department of Education and Social Policy, in her third year, was helping him with his reading. “My daughter in particular several times held the book and I told her the lesson. He was examining me.”

As for the next step the Lt. Col. has not yet decided which school he will choose, however he may become classmates with his daughter as he is considering the possibility of choosing the same school as her. He mentions with a smile that then he will be able to take her notes.

“I am very interested in the Department of International and European Studies at PAMAK and the Department of Educational and Social Policy, where my daughter is also because I see the courses and they are very interesting. There is another school that I like, the Logistics school in Katerini. I would like to go but I am worried about the distance combined with the fuel.”

“I never thought of giving up”

During his preparation there were moments where he faced difficulties but as he points out he never thought of stopping the effort and he advises the same to those who are thinking of following their dreams.

“It was a personal bet to succeed. It is not easy to work, to have obligations, your home and the preparation for the Panhellenic Games. There were times when I said I couldn’t read anymore, but I never said I would give up. We must never stop our effort until we have completed it because we are never sure of the result.”
