The ban is in retaliation for Britain’s decision to expel Russian diplomats from the British parliament.
The Council of the Federation (upper house) of Russia today banned access to its building to British diplomats, including the ambassador, as reported by Russian news agencies.
Speaking today during a meeting of the Rules Committee of the upper house, the senator Grigory Karasin stated that the ban it’s retaliation on the decision of the British to exclude Russian diplomats from the British Parliament.
Karashin said: “The decision is simple, although unpleasant, but it is required for this situation. Our country must be firm in upholding its own positions and upholding its honor.”
On June 20, the British newspaper Guardian wrote that Russian diplomats were banned from entering the British parliament following the deployment of tens of thousands of Russian troops in Ukraine, citing a document signed by the speakers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
