India will surpass China in 2023 and become the most populous country in the world

The world population is expected to reach 8 billion people around November 15, according to a forecast by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs released today, International Population Day.

According to the same source, India will surpass China in 2023 and become the most populous country in the world.

“As we await the birth of the 8,000,000,000th inhabitant of the Earth”, this event should be a “reminder of the responsibility we share to care for our planet” and offers “a moment to think about what are the promises we have made to each other the other but we didn’t respect it,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his message for Population Day, without being more specific.

It is also “an opportunity to celebrate our diversity, recognize our common humanity and admire the advances in health that have extended life expectancy and significantly reduced maternal and child mortality rates,” the UN Secretary-General continues.

According to the division of the Agency that made this prediction, the world’s population is growing today at the slowest rate since 1950.

The world population may reach about 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050, peaking at 10.4 billion in the 2080s and remaining at that level until 2100.

While there is a net decline in the birth rate in many of the so-called developed countries, population growth expected in the coming decades will be concentrated, by more than half, in eight countries, according to the UN. These are DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines and Tanzania.
