The intrepid British hiker who recorded the terrifying avalanche in Kyrgyzstan said he knew he was taking a risk but felt in control.
British hiker register to video a scary avalanche to reach his team on the mountain Tien Shan of Kyrgyzstan.
In the video uploaded by the 26-year-old Harry Simindescribes how his ten-member group was hiking up the mountain when they heard “the sound of ice breaking” and they saw a giant wave of snow heading their way.
Simin describes how as soon as the avalanche started he was cut off from his group and that probably if they had gone five more minutes on the trail, they would not have made it out alive.
“Nine Britons and an American on a guided walk in the Tien Shan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan. We just reached the highest point of the route and I broke away from the group to take pictures of a high hill/cliff,” Simin writes.
He goes on to say that he heard the sound of ice breaking while he was taking pictures and that he spotted a spot right next to him where he could seek shelter, which he literally left to the last second when the avalanche was very close to him.
“Yes, I left it to the last second and yes, I know it would be safer to move to the shelter immediately. I know very well that I took a big risk. I felt in control but beyond that, when the snow started coming and everything got dark and it was hard to breathe, I needed them, I thought I might die.” he said characteristically.
The video shows a thick layer of ice and snow over Mr. Simin’s head as he continues to shoot.

“Behind the rock it was like being in a blizzard. As soon as it was over, the adrenaline hit me hard. I was covered with only a small layer of snow and I didn’t even have a scratch.”
“I felt dizzy. I knew the rest of the group was well away from the avalanche and must have been fine. I found them again and saw that they were all safe, although one had a bad cut on his knee and was ridden down to the nearest medical facility.”.
