The ratification of Croatia’s accession to the eurozone took place during a signing ceremony, in front of the press in Brussels, in the presence of European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde, Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis and Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni.
The “green light” for her accession of Croatia to the Eurozone from January 1, 2023 lit up the Council of the EU.
“The EU Council today approved the last three legal acts needed to enable Croatia to adopt the euro on 1 January 2023. This completes the process in the Council that will allow Croatia to join the euro area and benefit from the use of the EU’s common currency, the euro, from next year“, says the announcement of the Council.

“I would like to congratulate my counterpart, Zdravko Marić, and all of Croatia for becoming the 20th country to join the euro area. The adoption of the euro is not a race, but a responsible political decision. Croatia has successfully completed all required financial criteria and will pay in euros from 1 January 2023“, said the Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic and chairman of the Ecofin Council.
One of the three legal acts defines the conversion rate between the euro and the Croatian kuna at 7.53450 kuna per 1 euro. This corresponds to the current central rate of the kuna in the exchange rate mechanism (ERM II).
