Scotland and Wales call for eight-day quarantine for UK visitors

by

London, Thanassis Gavos

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sterzion has called for tougher measures on foreign arrivals in the UK.

In a statement following the detection of six cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in Scotland, Ms Sturgeon said she and the Prime Minister of Wales Mark Drarickford had written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson asking him to in the UK from anywhere abroad.

Mr. Johnson announced on Saturday that arrivals from abroad should undergo a PCR diagnostic test by the end of the second day of arrival and remain in isolation until a negative result returns. The measure will take effect in the early hours of Tuesday.

Ms. Stergion suggests that visitors undergo a second molecular test on the eighth day of arrival.

As for the cases in Scotland, Ms Sturgeon said at least one was not linked to a trip to South Africa, suggesting that the virus may have already been transmitted to the community. He described the Omicron variant as “a potential development that poses the greatest challenge to the pandemic.”

Ask Scotlanders to increase their compliance with the measures in force and to work from home where possible.
