The American president will try to convince of the need to increase oil production by the OPEC countries in order to lower gasoline prices, during his visit to Riyadh

The representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov expressed today the hope that the visit of US President Joe Biden in Saudi Arabia will not be used to foster anti-Russian relations as the US seeks to persuade Riyadh to increase oil production amid soaring prices.

The White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Monday that Biden would try to make the case for the need to increase oil production by OPEC countries in order to lower gasoline prices when he meets Gulf leaders in Saudi Arabia this week.

Peskov also said that Russia, the world’s second-largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia and the world’s largest natural gas exporter, particularly values cooperation with Saudi Arabia within the framework of the OPEC+ alliance, which includes the top world’s oil producers.

“We are within the framework of the OPEC+ agreements and we particularly value the work we are trying to do with our partners, including leading partners such as Saudi Arabia,” Peskov said in a conference call with reporters. “We highly value our relations and our communication with Riyadh and we certainly hope that the relationship-building and development of relations between Riyadh and other capitals of the world will in no way be directed against us.”
