The Italian technocrat cannot continue his work unless he enjoys broad parliamentary support
According to information from APE-MBE, the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, does not mean, under the current circumstances, to remain in the prime ministership. He intends to go to parliament, probably next Wednesday, only to confirm his resignation, justifying it in an even more detailed way.
This position of Draghi is based on the fact that since he is not an elected prime minister, he believes that he can only continue if there is broad parliamentary support.
The Italian technocrat prime minister, as verified by APE-MPE, has already informed the president of the country’s democracy, Sergio Mattarella, who asked him to follow the institutionally prescribed procedure. It is no coincidence that Draghi limited the duration of his official visit to Algeria to a single day, which will finally take place next Monday.
At the same time, the Five Star Movement deciding which stance to take in view of next week’s developments. Within the next few hours, a final decision is likely to be made on whether the five stars withdraw their ministers from the broad coalition government, before the Italian prime minister addresses parliament.
At this stage, however, both his Forza Italia Silvio Berlusconiwhile the League and the small party Live Italy, of the former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, consider the government’s cooperation with the Five Stars to be improbable and extremely problematic now.
The center-left of the Democratic Party requests that this broad cooperation continue, within the framework of the government of national unity, “so as not to offer freedom of movement to the right”. The extreme right of the Brothers of Italy (which, at this stage, is the first force in the intention to vote) insists, finally, that the route of early recourse to the polls must be chosen immediately.
