Liz Truss linked her character to Margaret Thatcher and wore it “in every detail,” say social network users.

Having long cited Thatcher as an inspiration, Truss wore a large bow tie and white blouse with a black blazer for the Tory leadership discussion last night.

The look compares to the one Thatcher wore in her 1979 presidential speech, and the two adjacent photos certainly look like a challenge.

This is not the first time the South Norfolk MP has been compared to the UK’s first female Prime Minister.

The outfits of these two women have been strikingly similar for many years.

These include very specific images of both politicians posing with animals on the baby farm, riding motorcycles, and riding military tanks.

The speaking styles of the two women were also compared, with language experts saying Mrs Truss imitated Thatcher’s deep, long and slow speech.

Truss is not the only Conservative candidate influenced by a controversial figure.

Rishi Sunak said that he would use Thatcher as a role model as prime minister.

She said that she grew up in her father’s grocery store while helping out in her mother’s pharmacy and saw similarities between her own upbringing and that of an Iron Lady.

“We will cut taxes and we will do it responsibly,” he said in the first campaign interview.

“This is my financial approach. I describe it as common sense Thatcherism.

“I think it will”.

However, Mrs Truss appears to have used last night’s discussions to shed light on the former Prime Minister’s economic policies.

He states: “We face serious challenges as a country. This is the worst economic crisis in a generation, the horrible war that Russia is waging in Ukraine after decades of very slow growth.

“Now is not the time to continue with our current economic policy.

“We need to be bold, act differently, cut taxes, spur growth and rejuvenate the potential of every person in our great nation.

Thatcher’s legacy has seen the privatization of many state-owned companies, the massive sale of public housing and the decline of union power.

He believed in individualism and thought that “socialism is still embedded in the British system and spirit”.
