Britain is set to experience its hottest day on record on Tuesday, with a 95% chance of breaking the record high of 38.7 degrees Celsius set in 2019.

According to the forecast models, it is very likely that a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius will be recorded for the first time in the country, in areas such as Cambridge, Lincoln, Huntington and possibly London, with the mercury climbing even higher, perhaps as high as 42 degrees , in areas near highways.

That’s why the Met Office’s “red alert” for “extreme heat” is still in place for south-east, central and northern England.

On Monday, the thermometer reached 38.1 degrees Celsius in Sandon Downham, Suffolk, east England, in the country’s third hottest day on record.

The temperature record was broken in Wales at 37.1C, while confirmation is expected that the UK experienced its hottest night on record, with 26C at London Heathrow.

The heat caused the tarmac to melt on the runways at Luton Airport, where flights were also suspended for a few hours at St Basil’s Air Force Base in Bryce Norton.

There were also many incidents of railway tracks bending.

For today, the warning to the traveling public not to travel by train unless absolutely necessary applies, although many services have been cancelled.

In addition, at least six cases of drowning of people who dived to cool off in rivers and lakes were reported, with four of them involving teenagers.
