Podcast: why European cities are burning in new heat wave

by

Amid the heat wave that hits Europe, the UK weather service recorded 40.2°C in London – the data is provisional, but, if confirmed, represents the country’s historic record. This is the first time the UK has had temperatures above 40°C.

In other countries, the heat causes forest fires, damage to the economy and deaths – more than a thousand people have died because of the high temperatures on the continent, which in many places does not have the infrastructure to deal with this type of heat.

In this Wednesday’s episode (20), Café da Manhã brings the report of reporter Michele Oliveira, who lives in Milan, Italy, about how the population tries to deal with extreme temperatures. The podcast also talks to journalist Giuliana Miranda, who lives in Portugal, about the causes of the heat wave and the impacts of climate change in Europe and the world.
