Cyprus – China backs Nicosia: Anastasiadis – Xi Jinping

The positions of the Republic of Cyprus vis-.-Vis Turkey are strongly supported by Beijing, as emerged from the telephone conversation that the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis had with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

The President of China paid special attention to the positions of the Chinese authorities regarding the solution of the Cyprus problem and the need to respect international law.

Mr. Xi reiterated that for China there is no other option but the literal implementation of United Nations resolutions and Security Council resolutions stipulating that the solution to the Cyprus problem can be none other than the bi-zonal bi-communal federation, while the same condemned the illegal actions of Turkey, whether they refer to the status of the enclosed area of ​​Famagusta or to the violation of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus in the EEZ or to the further militarization of Cyprus by Turkey.

On bilateral relations, the President of China fully agreed with the President of the Republic, stressing the need to further deepen relations through the strategic cooperation agreement reached and made public today.

During their long conversation, which took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the topic of discussion was also the excellent relations between the two countries, but also the further cooperation for the promotion of trade and investment relations, the promotion of tourism, the education and culture and, more generally, issues related to the expansion of economic relations between the two countries.

According to government spokesman Mario Pelekano, President Anastasiadis briefed the Chinese President on all the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the illegal actions taken by Turkey, while emphasizing the need for further deepening of relations between the two countries in the fields. trade, investment, livestock products and so on.

Mr. Xi expressed his satisfaction in his speeches because this year marks the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of diplomatic relations between the two countries and praised the level of bilateral relations.

It is noted that China does not want a two-state solution in Cyprus and because of Taiwan, which considers it part of Chinese territory. For his part, the President of Cyprus noted Nicosia’s support for the “One China” policy.
