Switzerland: Increase in Russian espionage – The war in Ukraine is illegal

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues unabated, Swiss intelligence has warned that authorities should do everything in their power to prevent Russian spiesexpelled from Western nations due to the ongoing conflict, to enter countries such as Switzerland.

In the annual report released, the Federal Intelligence Service looked at a range of threats, including violent Islamic extremism, cyber attacks and an increasingly polarized world between autocracies and democracies, such as the growing rift between the US and China.

The Swiss intelligence services they identified the most threats from war in Europe, immigration and Russia. The federal agency said spying activity has increased in recent weeks. The report, according to the Associated Press, stressed that if Western nations succeed in preventing Russian intelligence officers from being replaced by young ones deployed under diplomatic cover, then Russian spy capabilities in those parts “will be weakened with lasting effect.” .

That, in turn, could prompt Russia to deploy more to different nations. THE assessment of swiss information added: “These may include Switzerland, so the means available to prevent such intelligence officers from entering must be fully used.”

The spy agency singled out Geneva, home to many other international and United Nations (UN) institutions, as an “espionage hot spot”.
