Tourism for all: Countdown to the voucher draw

by

As announced by the Ministry of Tourism, the first 200,000 digital checks will be given after a lottery that will take place immediately

Time counts down for the results of the program draw “Tourism for All” for the holiday voucher of 150 euros for 200,000 beneficiaries.

As announced by the Ministry of Tourism, the first 200,000 digital checks they will be given after a lottery that will take place immediately, so that the beneficiaries can use them from August 1, when the program officially begins.

At the same time, an extension of the program has been announced as with the intervention of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the beneficiaries are doubled for this year and amount to 400,000. These new digital vouchers – 200,000 in number – will be redeemable by the beneficiaries from mid-September onwards, until June 2023, by those who had submitted an application on the platform and were not selected as beneficiaries in the lottery.

It is recalled that with the new “Tourism for All” each beneficiary is provided with an immaterial, digital, prepaid card, on which the amount of the subsidy has been credited and which they can use for their stay in any hotel or accommodation of their choice in the country.

The redemption process

After the completion of the draw and the publication of the Final List of Beneficiaries, the Implementation Agency transmits exclusively and solely for the purposes of this to the credit institution or financial organization, observing the appropriate technical and organizational measures, the data of the beneficiary and in particular the name, the surname, e-mail address, mobile phone number, and the amount of the facility, information which is necessary for the issuance of the immaterial digital debit card.

The credit institution or financial organization will distribute, exclusively electronically, the immaterial digital debit cards within two working days of receiving the relevant file, without entering into a customer relationship with each beneficiary. Finally, it is stipulated that the participation of the credit institution or financial organization in the above procedure will be carried out based on the terms and conditions set in the Register of Collaborating Licensed Payment Service Providers, established by the Implementing Agency.

The credit institution or financial institution then informs the beneficiary of the procedure to be followed to activate the card and credit the amount of money, by sending:

  • text message (sms) to the mobile phone number that the beneficiary has registered in the special application, with integrated instructions for activating the digital debit card and
  • e-mail message (e-mail) to the e-mail address specified by the beneficiary in the special application with an embedded link to activate the immaterial digital debit card. After entering the above link, the beneficiary creates a personal access code (password) and receives a confirmation code, with a new text message (sms), in order to activate the digital debit card.

It is recalled that the program only concerns the coverage of tourist accommodation and accommodation and not cruises or catering as despite the relevant intention and effort of the Ministry of Tourism, it was not possible for tourist offices to be included in the providers in this phase of the program, due to issues of state aid and of EU law, which already in the earlier version of the program had created significant issues of redemption and payment both to the beneficiaries and to the offices themselves.
