Sweden and Finland they applied to join NATO after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but faced opposition from Turkey, which has accused the two Nordic countries of imposing an arms embargo on Ankara and supporting what it has labeled terrorist organizations.
The three countries signed a deal to lift Ankara’s veto in exchange for commitments to counter terrorism, but Turkey has said it will block their accession efforts if those commitments are not met. Turkey is seeking the extradition of 73 people from Sweden, as well as about 10 others from Finland.
