Charges against Boris Johnson for breach of lockdown

by

London, Thanasis Gavos

Boris Johnson has denied allegations that he violated the rules in England during last November’s lockdown and tight restrictions in London on Christmas Eve 2020.

A Daily Mirror report claims that on November 13, 2020, the British Prime Minister gave a farewell speech to a Downing Street staff member. He also allowed a party for “40 to 50” associates who were “stacked” in a room on Downing Street a month later, on December 18, although he did not attend.

In November last year, the country was in the second consecutive general ban that lasted four weeks. There was a work order from home where it was possible and a ban on socializing in sheltered areas.

In December, London was under the restrictions of the third level of measures, which included a ban on indoor meetings of people who did not live together.

The article was the culmination of questions raised this afternoon to Mr Johnson in the House of Commons by Labor leader Sir Kir Starmer.

Mr Starmer accused Boris Johnson of “passing the British off as idiots” and of proving that he believed “different rules apply” to him and his associates.

Mr Johnson avoided three countries denying the December party, but said “all instructions were followed in full on Downing Street”, echoing his spokesman’s morning reaction to the report.

Mr. Starmer countered that “either the party took place or the rules were followed, both can not apply.”

Speaking at the debate, the leader of the Scottish National Party in Westminster, Ian Blackford, reiterated the accusation against the Prime Minister, revealing that the Daily Mirror has sought legal advice on whether a legal offense was committed during the party.

A spokesman for the COVID-19 Families for Justice mourned the revelation that “the revelation that the Prime Minister was having a party with large groups of his friends at that time is terrible”. She added that one wonders “whether the Prime Minister has empathy” for the pain of others.
