Amjad Nasat Abu Alia succumbed to his injuries from gunfire during clashes with the Israeli army, the Palestinians said
A young Palestinian was killed today by Israeli fire in the occupied West Bankthe Palestinian Ministry of Health announced.
“A 16-year-old young man, Amzad Nasat Abu Aliasuccumbed to his injuries after receiving live fire during clashes with the Israeli army, near the village of al-Mughayer”near Ramallah, the ministry said in a statement.
About 300 to 400 Palestinians had gathered in that area to protest against the settlement, according to AFP photographers on the scene. Clashes erupted when Israeli settlers and Palestinians began throwing stones at each other.
According to the Israeli military, “hundreds of Palestinians started violent riots”.
“The rioters burned tires and threw stones towards a road through which civilian vehicles pass”the army said in a statement. “Israeli army and border police deployed and responded using riot gear and live fire”.
The incident occurred after two Palestinians were killed during a night operation by the Israeli army in Nablus early Sunday, in an incident described by the army as a shootout with gunmen.
At least 53 Palestinians have been killed since late March, mostly in the occupied West Bank, including alleged militants and civilians, including the journalist Al JazeeraShirin Abu Akleh, who was covering an Israeli operation in Jenin.
During the same period, 19 people – mostly Israeli civilians inside Israel – have been killed, mostly in Palestinian attacks. Three Arab Israeli attackers have also been killed.
