New figures show the number of students investigated for fraud at Oxford University has doubled during lockdown and distance learning restrictions.

The number of cases increased from 35 in 2018/19 to 69 in 2019/20 and 77 in 2020/21.

After the end of the pandemic, the number of cases fell again to 32 in 2021/22.

The University of Oxford said that number is a “small part” of the number of exams passed.

For example, in 2020/21, there were 77 of the 55,000 tests.

According to the Oxford Mail, eight procedures were confirmed as violations that year and 19 were referred to the appropriate evidence committee.

The Faculty of Social Sciences conducted the most fraud investigations at 146 cases.

After that, the number decreased because distance education was completed (Image: PA).

On the other hand, medical school had the lowest incidence of 19.

An Oxford University spokesman said:

“The College is committed to the highest standards of assessment, regardless of its format.”

A spokeswoman added that this number represents “a small portion of the 55,000 tests that passed.”
