Since the early morning hours today, two Greek gunners and an Albanian army helicopter have been operating on the burning slope of Mount Sopoti in the municipality of Phoenikai
The fires are raging for the third day in the mountainous areas that separate the two Greek minority municipalities, Dropoli and Phoenikai in the south of Albania. The main front of the fire moved from last night to the west of Mount Platovouni-Sopoti, which separates the two municipalities, burning thousands of hectares of forest land in its wake.
Since the early hours of today, Sunday 31 July 2022, two Greek gunners and an Albanian army helicopter have been operating on the burning slope of Mount Sopoti in the municipality of Phoenikai, managing to control and contain the fire, whose front is raging over three kilometers . The ultimate goal is not to allow the threatening expansion of the fire in the villages of Mouzina, Petsa and Gardikaki and to protect the large natural park in Galazio Mati and the wider area with dense vegetation and difficult places, but also with more Greek minority villages.
