Brazilian tourist dies after falling off cliff in Peruvian Andes

A servant of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) died this Monday (1) after falling off a cliff in the Peruvian Andes. Maria Lucia Paternostro Rodrigues, 46, lived in Brasília (DF) and was on vacation. She leaves a 12 year old daughter.

According to friends, the accident happened while Maria Lucia was hiking on the cliff. Because it is an area of ​​difficult access, the servant’s body was only located yesterday and is still in the process of being rescued. Afterwards, it must be sent to Lima, capital of Peru.

There is still no information about the arrival of the body in Brasilia. UOL contacted Itamaraty, but so far has not received a response.

Maria Lucia had a degree in letters and law and a postgraduate degree in public law. She joined the STJ in 2003 and currently held the position of chief advisor to the Nucleus for Management of Precedent and Collective Actions (Nugepnac).

The president of the Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Justice Council (CJF), Minister Humberto Martins, lamented the death of the servant and said that she stood out for her dedication to work and for her kindness and helpfulness in her daily life with her colleagues. .

“The Citizenship Court is in mourning! We express our absolute sadness for the departure of our valued servant Maria Lucia Paternostro Rodrigues. She honored and dignified not only the STJ, but also the entire Judiciary and the Justice system. Her life story is an example of dedication with excellence and love to the cause of Brazilian citizenship. May God, in his infinite mercy, comfort and strengthen all family members and friends”, he said.

During this Tuesday morning, the Federal Justice Council (CJF) also approved a motion of regret for the death of Maria Lucia. Minister Paulo de Tarso Sanseverino stated that Maria Lucia was an “extremely intelligent, diligent, competent and dedicated servant”.

For minister Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva, it is a death that “saddens everyone”.

Maria Lucia was passionate about nature, according to her friends. Whenever she got a break, she went hiking and visited waterfalls. She was getting ready for a hike in Patagonia.

On social media, he shared his favorite hobby. In one of the photos, she appears on top of a mountain, in a record made two months ago.

The latest posts also recorded the trip to Peru. For seven days, she visited Huascarán National Park and observed Lake Parón, known for its beautiful shades of blue.

“We were training together for a trail that we were going to do next year to Patagonia. The route is long: 100 km. She was excited and making plans”, said one of the server’s friends, Adriano Zed Teles, owner of a fitness gym. crossfit where Maria had been working out for at least seven years.

According to him, his friend was always smiling.

“We received this news with great surprise and sadness. Malu was a person of peace, good spirits, high spirits. She vibrated for everyone. She always wanted our good. She was always involved in trails, projects, dreams. It’s unbelievable”, lamented.
