The fund is awarded following a competitive call for proposals launched in early 2022 under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund to finance projects in Member States under pressure.
The European Commission has today granted €171 million for projects to support reception, asylum and return systems in Cyprus, Spain, Greece, Italy and Poland. These funds are granted following a competitive call for proposals announced at the beginning of 2022, within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, to finance projects in Member States under pressure.
The financial support of international organizations in Greece will contribute to the improvement of the quality of assistance provided for the protection of asylum seekers accommodated in structures of the reception system. It will focus in particular on the individualized management of people in a vulnerable situation, as well as providing support for the education of school-age refugee children in Greece.
The support to Cyprus will be allocated for the construction of accommodation and pre-departure centers in the area of Menogeia in Larnaca. In Spain, it will go towards strengthening the capacity of the reception system in Ceuta and the Canary Islands, alleviating the overburden on reception capacity due to increased migration pressures. Italy’s project will focus on strengthening the capacity of the reception system from arrival to all stages of reception, with the aim of protecting and caring for the most vulnerable refugee children and women. Finally, funding to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Poland will focus on strengthening a rights- and protection-based approach to immediate assistance, as well as improving return procedures. New calls for proposals under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) budget may be planned for 2023.
