President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will not attend the inauguration of the elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. His deputy, General Hamilton Mourão (Republicans), declined the task to dedicate himself to his pre-campaign for the Senate. And the Brazilian government will be represented at the ceremony by Chancellor Carlos França.

The ceremony, which will take place on Sunday (7), will mark the coming to power of the first left-wing government in the country’s history.
DISAFFECTIONS
Petro’s victory was criticized by President Jair Bolsonaro in June this year, after the election results. The Brazilian chief executive cited a request by the Colombian for youths arrested in protests in the neighboring country to be released. Politicians linked to Bolsonaro made a map placing Colombia as part of a group of supposedly communist countries in the region.

“Have you seen the speech of the new president of Colombia? ‘Release all the boys in prison, everyone’. Lula will release the little boys who killed someone with a cell phone,” Bolsonaro said in a conversation with supporters.
TWIST
Last week, the vice president-elect of Colombia, Francia Márquez, visited Brazil and met with Lula. To the column, she said to cheer for the victory of the PT. “I believe that Lula is the only president who has taken into account the rights of the black population in Brazil,” she said.
