The Russian president expressed the hope that it will be possible to sign a memorandum for the development of trade and economic ties between Russia and Turkey.

“The Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline is working smoothly, the European partners should be grateful to Turkey for this,” stressed Vladimir Putin before the talks he will have in Sochi with Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Russian president expressed the hope that it will be possible to sign a memorandum for the development of trade and economic ties between Russia and Turkey.

“Of course, we will not ignore the issue of Syria” Putin emphasized.

“Moscow and Ankara should open a new page in matters of cooperation,” said the Turkish president, among other things, arguing that “the talks between the two countries will bring relief to Syria.”

As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier, the two leaders’ talks are scheduled to touch on a wide range of bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues.

“Leaders are expected to focus on multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Turkeyincluding the prospects for wider trade and economic ties in the future and the implementation of joint strategic energy projects, and to share views on Ukrainian grain exports, on Ukraine, Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Ankara views the Sochi talks between Erdogan and Putin as a follow-up to their July 19 meeting in Tehran on the sidelines of the Astana summit.
