The President of the United States, Joe Biden, had a victory this Sunday (7) to see approved a package of laws involving environmental, tax and drug projects.
The victory was not more substantial because the text, of US$ 430 billion, represents a fraction of what the Democrat had initially proposed, in what became known as the BBB (Build Back Better) program. Dehydration was part of Biden’s efforts to achieve a political seam within his Democratic Party.
At least two senators, Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema, had been expressing disagreements regarding the volume of spending, citing the inflationary risk. As the party has a minimal majority in the Senate (with 50 names, plus the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Kamala Harris, against 50 of the Republicans), any dissent prevents the progress of projects.
The agreement with Manchin and Sinema was sewn in the last few days and consolidated this Saturday (6), when a rare session on weekends in the Senate unlocked the beginning of debates on the project.
The government’s expectation now, with the text forwarded to the House, is an approval later this week — in the other legislative house, the Democrat majority is looser.
