“If the occupiers go down the road of fake referendums, they will exclude for them any possibility of talks with Ukraine and the free world, which the Russian side will clearly need at some point,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening video message.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that if Russia goes ahead with plans to hold referendums in the country’s occupied territories on its union with Russia, there can be no talks with Ukraine or its international allies.

“If the occupiers go down the road of fake referendums, they will exclude for them any possibility of talks with Ukraine and the free world, which the Russian side will clearly need at some point,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening video message.

Russian and Ukrainian officials have held rounds of talks in the first period since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

However, since the end of March, no talks have been held. Each side blames the other for the breakdown in contacts.
